Environmental Impact Assessment Report
Environmental Information - Environmental Impact Assessment (IEE/CEE List - Annex I)
Type: CEE
Title: Proposed construction and operation of a gravel runway in the area of Mario Zucchelli Station, Terra Nova Bay, Victoria Land, Antarctica.
Organization(s) responsible: ENEA-UTA
Activity: Construction of a gravel runway
Topics: - Air facilities: construction / operations
Locations: Site name: Vicinity of the Italian Mario Zucchelli Station, MZS. Terra Nova Bay Area, Ross Sea.
Latitude: 74°41´42´´S
Latitude: 164°07´23´´
Period/length of the activity:
Decision/Comment: The result of CEE suggests that the benefits that will be obtained from the permanent runway will grossly outweigh the “more than a minor or transitory” impacts of the runway on the environmental and on the ecosystem. On these basis, the establishment of the proposed facility is highly recommended.

Environmental Information - Waste Disposal and Waste Management (Waste Management Plans)
Title: Waste Management Handbook (in Italian)
Fixed Site/Field Camp/Ship: Mario Zucchelli Station
Objective: The basic policy has been that nearly all waste from the Italian Antarctic Programme is removed from the Antarctic Treaty area. Main objective in the waste management planning is the Waste Separation (burnable material, recyclable and non-recyclable material) and Waste Disposal (local disposal of burnables, disposal of recyclable and non recyclable waste, local disposal of domestic liquids).
