Science Plan/Program/Project: The 2008-2009 Expedition was mainly aimed at obtaining the preservation of the assets and infrastructures in the Antarctica of the Italian Programme PNRA, doing all necessary maintenance. A further goal was the continuation of measurements which make up a continuous record of geophysical parameters. Finally the main international cooperation agreements were complied with.

Main Activity/ Remarks: EXANAM - Gene exchange between anthropogenic and native microbial communities at Concordia, role in biosafety and environmental protection. The project will study in-depth the microbial community surrounding an anthropogenic settlement in a hostile environment, in particular surrounding the Concordia Research Station at Antarctica inland, considered one of the closest terrestrial analog of water-containing Martian surface.
