Location:
Site Name: Maitri   70°45´56´´S   Long: 11°44´8´´E
Procedures put in Place: COMNAP Guideline on Environmental Monitoring as well as other relevant guidelines were followed to carry out Environmental Monitoring in and around the station.
Information Obtained: Measurement of the parameters have been done on Air Environment and Water Environment. Lake water samples, sediments as well as waste water samples have been collected and analysed.
Actions Taken: Wastewater treatment system has been tuned to improve the efficacy. Actions has been taken to reduces the chances of oil spill by laying fuel pipeline over trestle from storage to distribution point. Further action to lay lines on waste water pod and other oil handling area is being taken.

Permit Number: NCAOR/ANT/ASPA163/2015-1
Number of people: Permitted to enter  2   That actually entered:
Permit Period: From:  01 Jan 2015   To:  31 Mar 2015
Purpose: Annual study and monitoring of Dakshin Gangotri snout and snow accumulation / ablation on ice shelf.
Summary of activities: The movement of the glacier is monitored by measuring the distance of the glacial wall (snout) from fixed ground points. In the year 2001, the observations have been extended westwards of the snout, to cover the entire western side of the ice wall. One set of observations from the western wall and three set of observations from the glacier snout is planned during the austral summer period. The snow ablation / accumulation on ice shelf is being monitored using a network of stake array fixed on ice-shelf in the Princess Astrid coast and on the ice sheet south of NOVO airport. The accumulation or ablation in the area is monitored by measuring the exposed portion of the stakes annually. One set of observation from ice shelf and three set of monthly observations from ice sheet stake networks during the austral summer period.
