Purpose: Glaciological studies in parts of the central Dronning Maud Land (cDML), East Antarctica for providing inputs towards a better understanding of climate change
Summary of activities: The Dakshin Gangotri (DG) Glacier snout has shown continuous annual average recession of 0.57 m during the period 1983 to 1995, which accelerated to 1.59 m between 1996 and 2013. Since 1996 the glacier snout has receded by nearly 27 m and a cyclic pattern with high average annual recession after every 5 years has been recorded. During the period 2013-14, DG glacier snout has receded by 0.3 m with respect to its position from previous year The accumulation or ablation of snow on Ice Shelf and Polar Ice Sheet is being measured by a network of 20 stakes on the Ice shelf and16 stakes on the Polar Ice Sheet . These measurements are being done annually on the exposed portion of the stakes. About 23 cm of snow got deposited over ice shelf during the period of 2013-14 and 43 cm of snow got deposited on the ice sheet in the same period. When compared with the average annual surface air temperature and average annual wind speed of Schirmacher region, snow accumulation over ice shelf shows correlation in the year 2002, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2010 and in 2011, but still perfect correlation cannot be established among these parameters. Present work will provide further data on snout recession and snow accumulation which can be correlated with meteorological parameters.

Purpose: The main objective of the research program is to elucidate relationship between the orthogniess and paragneiss in the Larsemann Hills area. ASPA 174 (Stornes peninsula) is one of the best areas where both orthogniess and paragneiss occur in close association. Field study in the area might bring out important evidences towards attaining the research objective.
Summary of activities: Two Scientists visited Stornes on two occassion and carried out study in 3-4 hours. They followed all instructions while collected small fragment of rock samples. Their entry into ASPA was kep on hold for four months, before Permit is issued.
